Our History

Where time stands still

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Hunterville, our doors are open to travellers seeking a taste of rural charm. Picture yourself enjoying a hearty country meal while the occasional sound of a train on the track reminds you of adventures long gone and waiting just beyond the horizon.

The Hunterville Hotel was built on this site in 1885. Following the arrival of the rail, the name was changed to The Station Hotel. Step into a world where time stands still — our quaint dining room is adorned with a captivating collection of historic photographs that tell the tales of yesteryear.

This charming establishment was lovingly revitalised in 2003, breathing new life into its storied walls. Ascend to our upstairs rooms, each echoing the spirit of early settlers, meticulously crafted to the highest standards of comfort and style. Carefully refurbished again in 2023 — but the soul of the place remains unchanged.

Upstairs lodgings

Our hotel carries a quiet sense of history and charm. Long gone are the days of worn wooden furniture, faded wallpaper and carpets softened by decades of footsteps. Cleaner and brighter now, yet still carrying the same nostalgic charm — as if the past never fully left.

Our rooms are dedicated to the large farming community of the Rangitikei — each suite named after one of the great local stations.
